Post soaking up enough energy to go party and kick it gangsta styles.. we decided a better use of that energy would be filled by eating japanese chicken salads and doing our laundry! PARTY TIME IN NYC Laundromat with glow sticks and happy house blaring!
On the 12th Ciara awoke singing "Oh happy day!" ala sister act she even hit that high note the boy hits in the movie which got people thinking the fire alarms in the hotel were going off.. the only thing going off was Ciara´s hot voice rocking out!
We headed off in the RAIN yes RAIN AGAIN! to BB King´s House of Blues to go see the Harlem Gospel Choir in the flesh.. AMAZING.. that is all I can say.. it was just amazing to hear voices like that in a forum like that.. boy could they sing.. BETTER YET! They called Ciara up on stage and gave her an autographed copy of their CD and then began to sing "Oh Happy Day".. coicidence.. i think not! I reckon they must´ve heard her hit reviews from the hotel shower that morning and tried to recruit her.. alas.. being as popular as she is she had to let them down gently!
After that we got photos with them and Jiku tried to woo the lead male singer but he politely declined..
Then off to Hell`s kitchen flea market.. think glebe markets with only 5 stalls.. but we found some awesome jewellery! haha trust Ciara to locate jewellery from such slim pickings! Speaking of slim.. as if my waistline couldn´t grow any more... we then hit the Hersheys store for a land of chocolatey goodness.. so many people buying sweet sweet chocolate.. We left without any as Jiku said it´s all going to my stomach and it looks like owl babys are on the way for me.. Like that man who had a baby earlier in the year but I think I´ll one up her.. acutally.. two up her..
- I am really a guy..
- My babies are going to be Chocolate-Pizza-Beer-Owl Hybrids.. mm flying candy!
We then went across to the fashion district to check out Parson´s School of Design aka Project Runway Town! Alas no Heidi Klum or Tim Gunn or designers making outfits out of last years burrito bread but it was still very cool to see!
Just to rival Hersheys store.. we then went across to M&M World hoping either side of the street would get jealous and give us free candy.. alas.. our mission was fruitless... well sugarless but you get the idea!
and as if we couldn´t fit any more into a day.. we then went up 5th avenue.. talk about rich rich rich-ville.. but amazing window displays... it´s like they get artists to think up awesome and crazy ways to sell their collections.. and the level of detail is amazing.. they even had an entire manequin dressed in dripped candle wax..
We then reached our intended destination of FAO Schwartz for a boogie on the piano from "big"! wow I shared foot sweat with Tom Hanks.. and about 50,000,000 other people since the movies release in the 80´s.. gross.. then on to serendipity´s I tried to convince Ciara that purchasing a $17,000 dessert was a wise investment in our future.. in that we´d be storing the 24 carat gold flakes in our stomachs until the market rises.. but they wanted us to wait 45 mintues for a table and a coffee.. so I couldn´t begin to imagine how long it would take them to find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, convince the leprichaun to give it to them, melt it down, add chocolate, and bring it to our table..
By this stage we were getting hungry so we hit up a famous street vendor for chicken stuff before heading to a comedy club for the evening.. the comedy club waiting room didn´t allow us to eat our food there so we did what any self respecting traveller would do in NYC.. we sat in a doorway and ate.. alas no-one threw us any money or told us to "get a job" so i guess we didn´t look too out of sorts!
We then had more time to kill so.. what does one do? how about get your face on a billboard in times square?? well.. that´s what we did.. buy anything from a store.. take the receipt to a guy and he takes your photo and you get x number of characters to write a message.. a small price for our 15 minutes of fame.. no casting calls yet but we´re just waiting for that talent scout to track us down!
The comedy show was awesome... there were many lines crossed and I think the scene there is a little more obscene but it was great!
The next day we went to the "top of the rock" at Rockerfella center.. it was a seriously great way to catch a good view of the city..We then headed off for some culture.. MoMa for art, Tiffany´s for jewellery we then headed out to see Avenue Q.. think Sesamee street.. the happiness, the education, the fun.. then turn it on itÅ› head.. unemployment, sexual preference allegations, adult content and puppets making out big time.. and there is Avenue Q! they were excellent!!!
We then decided to end the evening with a romantic ride to the top of the Empire State.. I spent most of the time distracting Ciara´s photo taking by trying to get her to kiss me.. alas I failed... failed mankind.. there´s always Paris!
The next day we went down to the South Side Yo! checked out the Statue of Liberty.. standing there all proud and tall and looking down on us from her high french horse.. I didn´t realise but that epic symbol of American pride is actually a gift from the French.. makes me wonder if one day baguette toting french lovers and going to appear ala Trow and the wooden horse.. maybe I saw the wrong version of Troy?
We then went to the bodies exhibition whereby using crazy preserving techniques they had managed to preserve skin, veins, eyes, eyelashes and crazy anatomy. and put real people in sporting poses and other positions.. it was creepy and nausiating but cool to see.. they managed to suck all the moisture out of the person´s body and replace it with some chemical.. wierdness..
The next day it was time to get culture again.. we went to the googleheim.. aka guggenheim and then the metropolitan museum of art! it was the place they filmed night at the museum! very cool!
We then ducked off to Loeb´s boathouse for part of my NYC date with Ciara.. I rowed her gallantly around the lake.. the only thing missing was my straw hat.. she seemed to like it nevertheless!
we walked through central park and saw the John Lennon memorial and found out that every day someone comes to replace the flowers in different arrangements and people have been photo-cataloging it for years!
We then decided to revisit Tiffany´s.. this time armed with cash and dignity.. they wouldn´t let Jiku in with her top hat and spats but they thought mine were ok for some reason! we left with Ciara´s key to the city and overjoyed by a little blue bag!
From there we went to Grand Central and saw some live models posing for an Audi show.. very strange but oh well! only in NY!
Off to Scotland! for Haggis, Highland Games and Highjinks! MWA!
